This class is about movement.  Our lives are about movement.  Movement is life.

Think about this: most of us rarely notice how we move.  Our attention is drawn to our habituated movement patterns only when we have pain/stiffness, or when we attempt to learn a new skill (for example).   Most of us move and dwell in these habituated postural patterns most of our lives.  We grow accustomed to our movement patterns, accepting and repeating the same old thing.  Think about how you walk, how you sit, stand, breathe, talk…the list is endless!  We typically repeat the same old habituated patterns, forever.

Repetition of the same old thing (from a movement perspective), is certainly a much easier option.  But, this repetition, for example, can lead to overuse type injuries. Consider your knee joint.  It not only works as a hinge (straightening & bending), but also, for successful movement to occur (think about one single pain free stride when walking), it must have a rotational element to it. When we lose that critical rotation, due to injury/inflammation/chronic over use (there are many potential reasons), the knee will continue its linear pattern very much like a hinge.  This eventually leads to the degrading of the thin protective cartilaginous lining within the knee joint, influencing, for example, the onset of osteoarthritis (OA)!  This degrading process can and does happen throughout all our joints at some stage…….particularly if we repeat or habituate the same old thing!  To mitigate the same old thing, we need to have many movement solutions, much as you did when you were a child!

This class is all about you rediscovering those lost solutions!

So come and join me in exploring and improving your movement vocabulary.  I guarantee you will feel alive, and full of energy at the close of the class.  But most importantly, you will have movement ideas and solutions to practice and explore while the kettle boils!

All you need is an open mind, a dose of curiosity, a squirt of motivation, and a playful inquiry!
